Ernströmgruppen has acquired 70% of the shares in MCS Elektrotavler AS, a Norwegian manufacturer of encapsulated electrical technology with design and production facilities in three locations near Oslo. With a turnover of NOK 120 million in 2022, the company will now be part of the Electro Cluster within the New Platforms business area.
Founded in 1998, MCS Elektrotavler AS supplies various industries in Norway, such as housing construction, infrastructure, and industry with switchboards, switchgears and control panels in the low voltage segment. All planning and assembling of the products take place in Biri, Jaren, and Mjöndalen near Oslo. The current management will remain part-owners and all 45 employees will continue their work in the company.
The acquisition is strategically important for Ernströmgruppen's Electro Cluster, as the electrification of Norway is rapidly progressing. With the phasing out of fossil fuel-powered cars, the expansion of solar and wind power, and Norway's national goal of electrifying all domestic flights by 2040, the demand for encapsulated electrical technology is expected to increase. By contributing to the development of replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources, Ernströmgruppen contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions by supporting sustainable energy for all, in line with the UN's sustainability goals.
Jonas Kewenter, Head of Electro Cluster at Ernströmgruppen, says, "The acquisition is an important step in our continued ambition to build the Electro Cluster into an independent business area. With MCS Elektrotavler, we are significantly expanding our offer and position in Norway, while also gaining additional experience and technical know-how with a genuine focus on delivering the best service and quality to our customers”.
Ernströmgruppen’s Electro Cluster already consists of the Swedish companies BS Elcontrol, Rimeda, TransElMatic, and Hammarel, as well as Enira in Norway. The Electro Cluster now has a total turnover of more than 500 MSEK, 9 production sites and more than 200 employees.
Hallgeir Haga, daily manager and co-owner of MCS Elektrotavler, says, "We look forward to continuing our journey together with Ernströmgruppen and are convinced that our shared experience will develop MCS Elektrotavler to the next level. In cooperation with other companies within the Electro Cluster, we have opportunities to offer new and innovative solutions to our customers”.
